Point7 Wave Range with Adam Lewis

Point7 have released their new wavesails for 2013, power, ease of use, manoeuvrability and even a three batter sail, this range has it all. Boards caught up with the Point7 team, including PWA and BWA star Adam Lewis to find out more…

Salt

The Salt is a full on performance wave sail with loads of skin tension which gives it a really fast response. A little flatter than the other sails in the range this helps with doing wave moves or for freestyles tricks. It has a really compact shape and pulls slightly further back than the others which is great for jumping.

All in all it is a lightweight, compact, responsive performance sail. Even down to the panel layout of the sail; other brands opt with complex layouts to help with aesthetics of the sail whereas we’ve keep it completely simple to reduce weight.

This year we worked a lot on improving the rotation of the sail, giving the sail a little better bottom end power and drive, whilst working on the release of the mid leech of the sail, we have also helped improve the top end control of the sail.

As with all of our sails, the Salt is designed and tested for all conditions, it’s more directed at what sort of rider you are or what type of sail you are looking for. For the Salt I would recommend it to more advanced sailors looking for the best response, light weight and a manoeuvre oriented wave sail.

Sado

The Sado is really powerful and fast, it’s a great all-round bump and jump sail or perfect for heavier guys wanting more drive and power to take to the waves.

The power and control also helps lighter riders as you can use a smaller, lighter sail, for example you could take a 4.7 whereas before you would of have to use a 5.3. Or as a heavier rider it will allow you to use the same size as lighter riders but supplying sufficient drive the whole time.

Again we’ve been working extremely hard on reducing the weight of the sail, without effecting the structural integrity of the sail, by reducing the luff of the sail especially compared to a traditional power wavesail we have massively reduced the swing and apparent weight of the sail. It provides a huge amount of power in a lightweight, super strong package.

Swag

Right now the Swag is something really special, it’s great on the wave and a really fun manoeuvrable sail. It offers a little something for everyone, fantastic down the line, quite a lot of drive and it’s pretty fast too. In the end it has a fantastic wind range, it is really easy to use and is unbelievable on a wave.

If you’re into wave riding then it’s definitely something not to miss! Initially we were just exploring how we could get the lightest, most manoeuvrable, fun sails possible, but without comprising on the strength or materials. Naturally looking at cutting away a batten and simplifying the panel layout were steps towards that and it has proven to be a step well taken.

Right now the 4.7 is around 2.2 Kgs which really is a lot lighter than any other sail on the market. I’ve had a lot of people asking if the three batten sail is for real and I really do expect people will get themselves some of these sails. I’ve have done a lot of testing in the past for magazines and I think the new range of Swags are really something special. The sails character really motivates me to get out on the water more, they are so much fun, easy to use and have all performance you’re going to need. I keep getting as many people as possible to try them out here in Tenerife and they all come back on the beach, loving the sail.
