The ‘warm up’ day for the Red Bull Storm Chase here in the UK, has come to a close. After a morning of preparation, the sailors took to the cold British waters for their first windsurf.
Heading out at Gwithian beach, on equipment from 65 litres (Thomas Traversa) to boards in the low 80s, it was a relatively light winded start to the chase. Logo high waves were rolling through the bay, with some a little bigger, and as the day continued things took a darker and colder turn. It’s clear to see that the real storm is now on it’s way and the chasers are readying themselves for what the UK has to offer.
All the sailors were getting used to the weather, the break and the cold, it’s tough to say who will excel in these conditions, but the decision of whether to go to a port or starboard tack location could obviously have a huge impact on who takes the title.
It is still to be decided exactly where the chase will take place, the official decision will only be made just before the contest starts, but Boards will be there to share all of the latest info.
