The more speed we carry in to this part of the tack the better the more smoothly the mid-point will happen. The further round you wrapped the front foot in the entry the easier the footwork will be. The mid-point is where we need to execute moves simultaneously.
• Before releasing the back hand, sheet in sharply
• Transfer your weight onto the front foot and move round the mast
• Throw the head from shoulder to shoulder briefly spotting your hand grab the new side of the boom (this is what makes you move quickly).
*Top Tips – Where we need to do things at the same time we should focus on one trigger area that will make the rest happen. Focus on the timing and the head movement.
If we carry lots of speed into the midpoint we can move as we hit head to wind. On low volume boards we may need to go round a little early and back the sail before heading off.
