KENYA CUP PRO INVITATIONAL

Windsurf / Kite-safari – The Kenya Cup, 2nd – 17th January 2005

In early January 2005 for the first time an invitational Pro- kitesurf/windsurf event will be held in Kenya – East Africa. Kitesurfers including Kirsty Jones (UK), Danny Seales (UK), Ian Gray (UK) and Richard Boudia (FR) and Windsurfers Jan Sleigh, Terry Luxton and Mark Hosegood (Team Naish), will be following in the footsteps of Livingston and Hemingway by exploring this great wilderness. Award-winning extreme photographer (and Kenyan veteran) David Sims and writer Siobhan Pestano will be on-hand to record the action.

The event is organised by David Sims and Craig Rodgers from Extreme Safari, the sports and adventure travel specialists. The team will be staying at “Nomads” which is set in tropical rainforest on the edge of the Indian Ocean at Diani beach. Nomads is a laid back eco-resort and home to kite and windsurf centre, H2O Extreme. The local “Kaskazi” trade wind will enable the team to rip it up in the flat-water lagoon or wave ride on the outside reef, as well as provide the conditions needed for the inaugural hosting of the “Kenyan Cup”, which will include Best Trick and Wave-Riding disciplines for both Kitesurfing and Windsurfing.

At some point during their stay, the riders will take a break from chasing wind and waves, and start chasing wildlife instead, as they set off on safari. A luxury tented camp will be their base as they track down the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo).
