All the while the wind and rain continues to blow across the lush green island of Maui; you know what they say “no rain, no rainbows” and today proved that to be correct.
The conditions were not typical; gusty trade winds, small waves and accompanying showers battered the coast all day long.
A little rain didn’t stop 45 hopefuls though as they battled it out for a coveted spot in the main event – The Jeep Hawaii Pro and a possible share of the $30,000 prize money.

The top 16 was a mixed bag of sailors; windsurfing legends Robert Teriitehau and Alex Aguera made it through to the main event along with young guns Riley Coon (Starboard) and Nick Warmouth (Starboard). All the quailfiers will be pushing hard and hoping to take down some PWA scalps in the coming days.
The forecast for the coming week is for more strong winds and the rain lightening up by Wednesday.
The competition begins for real tomorrow and maybe we’ll get a little sun too?
