SOUTHERN ELECTRIC PUTS THE SPARK BACK INTO YOUTH AFLOAT!

There is only three weeks to go until 1,200 young people descend on Poole’s
Harbourside Park for the biggest water festival of its kind in the country.
On Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July hundreds of children between 8 and 17
will be participating in water activities as diverse as surf chasing and fishing,
dragon boat racing and life saving – many of them for the first time with some
never having seen the sea before!

Juliette Kemp, Youth Afloat co-ordinator is thrilled by the level of response
to this year’s event and said, "thanks to Southern Electric’s generous
sponsorship Youth Afloat is able to continue to offer even more youngsters a
chance to experience the challenge of a wide range of water sports".

Southern Electric’s Sophie Greenyer, said "We’re delighted to be able
to play a part in this year’s event. Youth Afloat promotes the welfare and well-being
of young people, encouraging them to try new activities whatever their ability
– aims that we are pleased to support".

Activities include: Sub-aqua diving, Dinghy sailing, life
saving, canoeing, rowing, windsurfing, surf chasing, raft racing, dragon boating,
sailability, fishing, off shore sailing, motor cruising.

For the 2002 Youth Afloat Festival the organisers would
like to attract more children with special needs, or who are socially excluded
from sports activities, to participate in this event. They are keen to encourage
visits this year by group leaders to see for themselves how the event is organised
and what it offers these young people.

The organisers of Youth Afloat are very keen to encourage
increased participation by young people with special needs. If you are involved
with any group who may be interested in participating next year please call
Juliette on 01202 261343 or e-mail [email protected]
to arrange a tour of the festival over the weekend of Saturday 30 June / Sunday
1 July.
