The first weekend in October saw the West Brothers from Holsworthy braving high speed Northerly winds in the Great Britain RYA Zone Championships at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy.They competed in the Open Windsurfing Class on Mistral IMCO Olympic long boards The event was one of the largest sailing and windsurfing events of all time with 275 boats and boards attending.
Day one saw winds of force 6 and limited racing completed.However with a full day on Sunday, the West Brothers were able to stamp their authority.
Adam (14) won all 5 races in his whitewash of the 5.5 open class and Dexter (11) was only beaten once in his convincing 4.5 victory.
The boys who attend Edgehill College in Bideford collected their first place trophies and prizes from Sarah Ayton (British Gold Medallist, Athens 2004 ,sailing).Adam and Dexter are now concentrating on getting selected for the RYA Zone Squad, the first step on becoming National Team sailors.
