At the beginning of March this year Mark Stevens, a local building surveyor from Poole installed a new wireless weather station to serve Whitley lake in Poole Harbour giving board and kite sailors the opportunity to check the actual weather before leaving home or office for the day.

Found at www.pooleharbourweather.com this free site shows wind direction and speed updated every three seconds. Other useful information such as barometric pressure change can also be seen on the live weather page.

Mark, a keen sailor himself, found that many of his friends were disappointed with some of the available weather forecast sites finding that for evening racing especially winds had often dropped despite the best auspices of organisations such as the BBC. Having a live web site enables realtime decisions to be made such as whether to get on down to the beach or to give in and head for a bar!
