YOU SHALL GO TO THE BALL SAY SAS!
Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) are delighted to announce that they have just
been granted all permissions required to run this year’s Annual Fundraising
Ball, an event which has become known as “the South West’s social event of
the year” and which will take place on Friday 1st September.
Due to a change in legislation at the end of 2005, SAS has had to apply both
for a license and also for planning permission to run the longstanding
event, which takes place near St Agnes head on the North Coast at a stunning
cliff top location. SAS, and organisers, local production company SW1 have
both worked hard over the years to co-operate with both residents close to
the site and the relevant statutory bodies, and we are delighted that the
result of the application has been a positive one.
Richard Hardy, SAS Campaigns Director said, “We’re delighted that all the
hard work in preparing for this year’s Ball has met favourably with the
licensing and planning authorities. This event is a crucial fundraiser in
support of our campaigning activities to help create a clean and safe water
environment that everyone can enjoy. Special thanks go to SW1 productions
and Mark Gregory of MSG Arcbuild for their invaluable assistance with the
planning and licensing process”.
The profile of the event has built considerably since its inception over 15
years ago, with the music lineup often including chart topping or hugely
popular acts. Previous years have seen performances from super groups such
as Razorlight The Darkness, Faithless, and last year’s festival hot bands
The Futureheads and The Subways. This year looks set to be no exception,
with a stunning and varied lineup looking sure to contain something for
everyone – but as ball goers well know the line up remains a secret until
the night! The event always attracts a remarkable level of creativity from
ball goers who let their imaginations run wild in creating fancy dress
costumes and it is partly this that makes the event so special.
This year the event has also had a face lift, with the site benefiting from
a different layout, a larger and improved dance tent and a whole new area
added in to whet the whistle of ball goers in the form of a chill out
cocktail lounge, where you can pick your environmentally themed ‘Campaign
Cocktails’.
As ever, the reason behind the ball remains central to the ethos of the
event and to this end, this year’s SAS Ball is themed as the “Recyclaball”.
Every year sees SAS make improvements to recycling and reducing the
environmental impact of the event and this is set to continue at this year’s
show, with a rumoured appearance from the Wombles looking likely to
encourage sensible recycling.
