IRELAND WAVE FESTIVAL 2001

For anyone in Europe wanting to check out the ultimate in wave action, South
West Ireland is the destination to head for in October, with two weeks of wave
action culminating in the World Cup PWA Wave event. If conditions are anything
like they were last year, the competitors and spectators are going to have some
real treats in store…

The action is scheduled as follows:

1 / IWA WAVE OPEN
Thursday 4 thru to Saturday 6 October

SMI (Sports Media Ireland), in association with the Irish Windsurfing Association
(IWA) are hosting an Open International Wave Sailing event for sailors from
all around the world to compete for up to 8 places in the PWA Grand Prix commencing
Monday, 8th in Kerry.

Sunday 7 thru Saturday 13 October

SMI, on behalf of Sportsworld Media Group plc (www.sportsworld.net) are hosting
the Ireland Wave Grand Prix, a PWA World Tour – Wave event.

Government Minister, Dermot Aherene (Family, Social & Community Affairs),
a serious windsurfer is again likely to be in attendance on Sunday, 7th October
for PWA Registration and to Officially Open the event, along with assorted dignatories
from the Sports Council, Kerry County Council, Event Sponsors and Partners,
as well as the Press and General Public. Formal proceddings will commence @
17.30hrs.

Wednesday 4 thru to Saturday 13 October

A festival wrap around will weave around the 2 main watersports events (as
in 1 and 2 above) with a (a) Wave Passport and (b) Event Guide of ancilliary
beach activities, plus evening entertainment.

The Wave Event immediate impact area encompasses the villages of Brandon, Cappagh,
Cloghane, Kilcummin, Stradbally, Castlegregory, Fahamore and Kilshannig, with
a spillover to Dingle Town (to be finalised on 2/3 August).

(a) WAVE PASSPORT

The Event Guide will incorporate the Wave Passport (A6 fold pullout), which
in turn is a promotional tool to generate traffic to the pubs and restaurants,
plus entertainments outlets in the area. Participants, spectators and visitors
will be incentivised to visit all locations, at some time during the 10 days
to receive a free gift, a drink or other premium, with each venue to agree its
individual contribution with SMI before Event Guide inclusion.

(b) EVENT GUIDE

The Event Guide will be an A5 format, colour catalogue with a mix of text,
pictures, competition schedules, entertainment timetables, event sponsor and
partner ads, as well as website and other information sources.

Distribution will be via the website, media partners, information hotline,
tourism offices.

Entertainments will include:
– a hot tub on the beach each day
– surfing demonstrations
– windsurfing freestlye demonstration
– WOWI demonstration (Women of Windsurfing Ireland)
– watersports classes for beginners (windsurfing, surfing, diving, sailing,
other tbc)
– Commercial Village in Castlegregory, with food stalls, clothing and equipment
and crafts, etc
– traditional music trail linked to Wave Passport venues
– Dance Club Nights at weekends with Big Name guest DJs
– plus possible Outdoor Gig, subject to weather conditions and Gig Partner discussions
coming on board by September 1st (max live audience expected in region of 2,000-3,000
in year one!)
