UKWA – NATIONAL FREEWAVE SERIES 3

UKWA – NATIONAL FREEWAVE SERIES 3 – SHOREHAM BEACH (Beach Green)

A weekend of action packed extreme sports and outdoor fun is planned for
the 2004 OCEAN CARNIVAL Extreme Festival events taking place at Hove
Lagoon and Shoreham Beach over the Bank Holiday weekend (29-31 May).

UKWA – BRITISH OPEN RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT HOVE: top British and
International windsurfers of all ages will compete against each other
hoping to increase their 2004 National ranking, including Brighton-based
Christine Johnston, (Formula Windsurfing World Champion 2003). Being
challenged by the likes of Lucy Horwood, Jamie Lever, Alan Jackson, Ross
and Aaron Williams, Xavier Ferlet and Dan Ellis (to name but a few)
Christine will have plenty of competition.

HOVE LAGOON WATERSPORTS OPEN DAY: Want to get into the action? Have a go
yourself – dingy and windsurfing taster sessions throughout the weekend
(adults £7.50/children £5.00 – phone Hove Lagoon Watersports on 01273
424842 to pre-book). Other activities to look out for will be a
spectacular display of Zap Cat Racing during the Saturday lunch break and
Wakeboard demonstrations during the Sunday lunch break. Scheduled into
each day’s programme will be an invitation Slalom Competition and Freewave
Expression Session (depending on the wind). Meet the Pro’s who will be
around to answer your questions. Juice FM (John and Mark) will be
broadcasting live from the Lagoon on Sunday.

Relax and enjoy lunch at the Big Fish Café (also equipped with a paddling
pool and playground for children), providing a perfect outdoor lunch
respite for families who wish to come and watch all the action. After an
exhilarating day, sit back and relax at Woodies Longboard Diner – an
American style Surf Diner where a choice of hot meals and beverages will
be available. RPM Health Fitness (experienced Sports Massage & Fitness
Consultants) will also be on hand to massage away those aches and pains or
give advice on a specially tailored health and fitness programme just for you.

SHOREHAM BEACH: THE 2004 SHOREHAM BY SEA NATIONAL FREEWAVE EVENT AND FUN SLALOM CHALLENGE INCLUDING THE SURFLADLE SULTAN OF SHOREHAM CUP:

Local sailors, Andy Funnell (Indoor Jump Champion 2004) and Mat Pearch (ranked
in the Top 10) will be competing against the UK’s top wavesailors
including Louise Emery (1st Lady, Triple Crown 2003), Chris Audsley
(Indoor Freestyle Champion 2004) and John Hibbard, aka 007.

The overall winner will be crowned Sultan of Shoreham 2004, won by Mark
Warren from Dorset last year. Mark is still recovering from a motorbike
accident so he’ll have to be content with judging this year but he’ll be
back on the water in 2005 hoping to regain his Title.

Come and meet the Pro’s and watch them in action – see how somersaults and
tricks on the waves should be performed. There’ll be a FUN SLALOM
CHALLENGE for local sailors as part of the Demo Days (29th & 30th) at
Widewater where you will be able to try out the latest equipment first
hand – for further details call SURFLADLE (Tel: 01273 465366).

For those of you interested in kite surfing, SUSSEX KITE & SURF CENTRE
(Tel: 01273 452422) will put on a display during the afternoons of
Saturday and Sunday. Novices will have the opportunity to learn to fly
small land based trainer kites and those of you who are up to speed can
try out some of the new 2004 Airush equipment. The local Airush team will
be on hand to help.

EUROVANS, the leading Volkswagen van dealer in the South East with
branches in Eastbourne and Brighton will be at both venues showing the new
Transporter T5 which is the vehicle choice for all windsurfers.
