Brits Produce The Goods in Western Australia

The season is really kicking off down in Western Australia as their summer goes from strength to strength. Last weekend saw the annual Lancelin Ocean Classic hit the shores of WA, and there more than a couple of Brits there showing off their skills.

Graham Woods, preparing for the Lano Classic

First up in the wave competition Graham Woods (formerly of team AirBorn, or is it still going?!?!) stormed through heat after heat to finish an incredible 3rd position. This is ahead of the likes of Scott McKercher, Jaeger Stone and Ben Severne! The only two to finish ahead of Woods were former world champion, Philip Koester and local ripper Glenn Alexander. We cannot wait to hear more from Graham on the contest and how he’s been improving down under.

Ben Proffitt, finishing in style!

Ben Proffitt also made a splash as usual, in the long distance race Proffitt managed a very respectable 9th position, which it seems he is pretty happy with (according to his Facebook). Proffitt took commitment to a whole new level as he catapulted himself across the line to secure his top ten finish. At the top of the fleet it was Steve Allen who took the win, with Isaac Devries in second and Peter Volwater in third. Rather surprisingly Dunkerbeck only managed 5th position, and even Proffitt managed to beat Koester who also tried his luck at long distance.

Maeli Cherel, getting ready for the big race…

In the women’s fleet Maeli Cherel has been representing for the UK. Whilst not being a Brit, Maeli has spent much of her time based in the UK, so we’re claiming her as one of our own! Maeli sailed to victory in the wave heats, and THEN went on to claim second place in the long distance race too! That’s one busy weekend. You can read more about Maeli’s time in WA (especially Gnaraloo) and her upcoming ‘year out’ right here on Boards.
