Top 3 tips for competing in waves for the first time
Well in no particular order…
- Ask, don’t be shy, just ask! i was at a contest for the first time once, i didn’t have a clue, so i asked someone!
- Watch, see what the more experienced ones are doing, watch where they launch (usually upwind of the sailing area), when they launch (on the previous heats red flag, even earlier maybe?), and as you get more experienced, which waves they are picking off and where they take off ….
- Organise your kit in advance, know what you can and can’t rig at the same time. if you have two masts, remember if you want to rig your 5.3 and 4.7 you will probably need a second base! just think about it before the panic sets in and you’re trying to rig something but realise you have to de-rig something else first!
