Top 3 tips for competing in waves for the first time
1. Go for bigger equipment than you would usually take out. In Competition you haven’t got time to be floating about. You need to be mobile. So best take a bigger board.
2. Check your heat draw and find out which heat you are in and who’s before you. No point in doing all the prep getting the right gear to end up missing your heat.
3. Read the board and work out what the criteria is, i.e. 2 waves 2 jumps… How long the heat is, etc.. and always check it before your heat as it can change if the conditions do. It makes a massive difference to how you plan your heat and remember if you only need 2 jumps, don’t waste the whole heat jumping!! Get the 2 jumps and 2 waves in ‘FILL YOUR SCORE CARD” then put the extra ones in.
