FULL DAY of AMATUER competition but results held till Sunday.

Thanks to the National Trust who allowed access to Godrevy today which provided the goods for the BWA Amatuer, Masters and Ladies fleets. Cross offshore with some quite chunky, logo high waves in the morning but lacking the wind untill around midday when Head Judge Duncan Coombes sent out the Youths for their first heat in the building south/south easterly winds. The ladies, amateurs and masters followed and ‘careful wave selection‘ was the order of the day. Get in the right place at the right time and you were rewarded with long, port tack rides. Get stuck on the inside in the gusty winds, mis-time the sets and it was game over for some riders.

Stand outs in the Amateurs was Emile Kott who, with 22 sailors in the fleet, had to sail heat after heat to get himself into the final four. Nice to see Clyde Waite back in competition, who was sailing well until he broke his mastfoot. Ryan Humphrey did well today, despite saying he didn’t like competition and moaning every time he had to go back out. Cracking sailor and we expect to see him at all the 2011 events giving some of the top amatuers a run for their money.

BWA Chairman, Nigel Treacy received a call around 4pm on the Friday evening.
‘We’re just going through Kilmarnock, on our way down’. Yes, the Troon boys, (Scott McDowell, Ian Gibson and Big Davey), legends in their own country, Tiree regulars and all round madmen, decided to leave work early and drive from the west coast of Scotland to Gwithian in Scott’s builders van. 10 hours later and they arrived. A few hours kip and they were on the water ready to battle for the overall BWA Amatuer and Masters Titles 2010. Points were close and Big Davey had two targets in site for the Masters crown; the RAF boys (Craig Hamilton and Russ Jenkins). They all met in the final along with Ben Abel. It was close, but the result will be announced SUNDAY!

Scott was trying to wrestle the crown from Adam Sims who has had a great year and will go Pro next year with his RRD sponsorship. They were both in opposite halves but they didn’t count on the Welsh twins from deepest, darkest Barry Island; Duncan and Rob Sheldon. These boys rip and along with Lewis Merrony they shook up the regular tourers and knocked Scott and Ian out of the semis. The final four went out in dying conditions but got just enough for a result which…..we find out on SUNDAY!

All results to be announced SUNDAY.

The Pros await just an hour of wind to finish off the double elimination. If not, then Phil remains the winner…..
Meanwhile, everyone else is off to the Sandsifter Halloween Ball. 1000 tickets sold and it goes on till 6am in the morning. Should be a good night!
