4TH OLYMPIC CLASSES REGATTA, HYERES
MISTRAL ONE DESIGN – DAY 3
In light winds the race committee pushed to get one race in for each group
of men yesterday, proving yet again that Olympic windsurfing equipment must
be able to perform when other Olympic classes are racing. There were a
number of DNFs in both the yellow and blue groups due to a dying breeze and
thus an inability to finish within the time limit. There was no racing for
the Mistral women so results are unchanged: Alessandra Sensini (ITA)leads,
but Yin Jian (CHN) had a win in race four to make a strong challenge for the
overall lead.
In the men’s fleet, Nicolas Beudou (FRA) has moved up to second place
overall with Maxym Oberemko (UKR) taking third place overall. Nikos
Kaklamanakis (GRE) took 3rd in his blue group race and is now lying 4th
overall. Meanwhile Yuan Guo Zhou (CHN1),struggling for consistency, had a
bad 5th race finishing 12th in the blue group but anyone who writes this
tough and determined competitor off is quite likely to get a big surprise !
The top French men will be selected to represent France at the 2002 Athens
test event.
