Dempsey To Kitesurf?

Unless you’ve been shut away in a dark cupboard you can’t fail to have noticed that today is D-Day for Britain’s Olympic windsurfing hopefulls Nick Dempsey and Bryony Shaw.

Speaking a few moments ago on BBC Breakfast, Nick’s wife, and Olympic Gold Medallist, Sarah Ayton spoke about Nick being in the best shape of his life and keen to make the podium after just missing out in Beijing.

She also added that after London 2012 Nick would have to reassess the situation as far as what happenes next and may have a bash at kitesurfing!

Sarah said that Nick would most likely “have a go and see if he was any good” before making any firm decisions.

There has been some speculation as to what RS:X racers would do after the Olympics and being highly competitve people it should come as no surprise that many would opt to switch discipline so as to keep their Olympic dreams alive.

So is Dempsey about to become a professional kitesurfer? Only time will tell but for now all his focus will be on the job in hand and that is to take home an Olympic medal from the 2012 Games.

And don’t forget that Bryony Shaw is also vying for a top spot in the women’s event.

Stay tuned to the Boards webiste for up to the minute reports from Amy Carter who is down at the event site in Dorset.

All the RS:X action kicks off at 1200hrs today.
