EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST
Sail too big or full –
Pulls you about, fighting catapults and constantly heading upwind.
Sail too small –
Difficult to commit to the harness, slow or always dropping off the plane.
Not enough downhaul or outhaul –
Sail too full and touching the boom, hard to rotate, and harness lines always feel wrong.
Too much downhaul or outhaul –
Rig feels twitchy, ‘on/off’ and un-settled
Fin too big –
Board constantly heads upwind and lifts out of the water.
Fin too small –
Spin out, can’t keep upwind or hard to get planing.
Board too big –
Leaps about in chop and constantly feels ‘bouncy’.
Board too small –
Slow to plane, hard to keep upwind, sinks when you least want it too.
Board rocker too flat, hard railed and narrow –
Too fast and hairy over chop and very difficult to gybe.
Board has too much rocker –
Slow to plane and difficult to keep upwind.
Boom too low –
Slow to plane and encourages bent arms and legs – not great!
Boom too high –
Loss of control.
Harness lines too short –
Prone to catapulting, bent front arm and hunched stance.
Harness lines too long –
Bum hits water, feel unstable.
Harness lines too far forward –
Backhand is always pulling way down the boom pulls and you can’t sheet in.
Harness lines too far back –
Too much pressure on front arm.
