PWA / Carter-Hunt: Comeback King Kevin Pritchard pins hope on wind for Saturday and light at the end of the tunnel
The PWA World Cup Guincho Wave Contest 2007 – Day Four
Single elimination winners Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / Simmer) and Daida Moreno (North) enjoy the summer sunshine and surf as Saturday provides the last glimmer of hope for those relying on a Double Elimination to fight back
More sun. more surf, but no wind. Instead, being ever competitive, many of the world’s top wave riders were eager to pitch their skills against each other in an impromptu surfing battle.
Maui-based Italian ripper Francisco Porcella (Simmer) won an exciting clash ahead of local boy Francisco Fonseca (Gaastra). Kauli Seadi (Quatro / Naish) came third.
The girls went out to play too, and current world wavesailing champion Iballa Moreno (North), Nayra Alonso (Fanatic / Severne) and Anne-Marie Reichmann (Naish / Naish) were styling amongst the boys.
With a double elimination to complete in both the Men’s and Women’s events, everyone optimistic is crossing their fingers for some low pressure wind at the weekend.
Should the wind play ball there are some big names intent on fighting back through – including the likes of Jason Polakow (JP / NeilPryde) and Kevin Pritchard (Starboard / MauiSails), who’ve made mythical comebacks in the past.
Until then, Tuesday’s single elimination winners; Victor Fernandez, who knocked out Kauli Seadi (Quatro / Naish), and Daida Moreno, who overcame Karin Jaggi (F2 / North) in a harshly contested women’s finale, maintain their event leads.
