THE FAT FACE NATIONAL WINDSURFING FESTIVAL 8/9 SEPT 2007
The planning for this years Fat Face National Windsurfing Festival is well on the way to be yet another awesome event; with the support of our title sponsor, “Fat Face”, and the whole of the windsurfing industry, it’s going to be a biggie!
If you are one of the lucky 362 who competed last year and witnessed the Fat Face Night Windsurf, you must wonder how we could make the event even more appealing to the free-ride sailor. I mention the free-ride sailor, simply because the event format has been tailored to suit your needs, turning the usual spectator into the competitor! If you can sail from the beach in a straight line and turn round a buoy then this event is for you.
“The Inn on the Beach” will be our location this year with the kind support of Havant Borough Council and Carl and Diane There will be a total of 3 marquees, one designated for the trade to show off all their new 2008 equipment with the facility to demo. Also a trade marquee for the importers with their latest 2008 equipment with brand guest lectures throughout the weekend, with an added opportunity to demo equipment. The likes of: Simon Bornhoft, Peter Hart, Jim Collis, John Hibbard, Martin Francis and Dan Ellis will all be at hand conducting clinics over the 2 days duration.
During the day, Master Blasters will be conducted from the beach, designed for sailors who haven’t competed on the national circuit. After each race having a separate title sponsor, there will be loads of prizes given out; categories include pre millennium, pre 1985 equipment and also a fancy dress prize just to mention a few. This format is designed so as not to disadvantage the competitor who can’t make the whole weekend – everyone has the same opportunity of winning a prize after each race. There is also the edition of a tandem racing this year which is sure to be fun!
There will be a separate class for all those sailors who have competed on the national circuit. We have already witnessed Julian Anderson coming out of retirement to show the fleet his clean pair of heels during the national competition and won the day time event overall!
Also during the day, the heats of the Night Series event will be conducted where competitors will have the opportunity to compete and hopefully secure a place in the night time series, the format will depend very much on the wind.
There will also be an opportunity to win a Mistral Wave board signed and donated by last years Night Series Windsurf winner, Nik Baker.
Try taking part in the team competition, any 3 sailors, less those national sailors, of any age or gender from a club or retail shop can register on the day with their team name. The Team “Firestarters” where lucky enough to win a £2000 holiday voucher last year.
The event costs £25 to competitors which secures you a Fat Face VIP pass enabling you free parking, Fat Face rash vest, free clinics, free meal with complimentary drink and also entry into the Fat Face Night Series party where there will be a live band and disco.
Due to the enormous attendance last year and expected attendance this year, we have started a pre entry scheme for competitors to ensure you get your place on the start line, this can be downloaded from www.ukwindsurfing.com
