Whilst Swift is safely in a lock up with Brawzinho and Campello, Skyeboy is chilling on the beach in Pozo. Skye seems to be pretty relaxed ahead of the impending competition, he’ll be rigging just before his heat and is happy with all the equipment he has.
He’s such a consistent finisher on the PWA tour and it’s easy to see why, experience and a relaxed manners = unflustered competitor!

“My set up for typical Pozo is with the 75 Wave Cult. RRD have a multi year strategy with their boards, which means the boards stay the same for more than one year. Its great as my board from last year is still going strong, so this years one I kept specially for contests and can have a back up board in case the conditions change. If the wind drops for example I can just grab a bigger sail, already in the same board and carry on without losing much of the heat.
“So on the beach I have 2x 75 WaveCult, both set up exactly the same with MCF 250 fins. Plus I have the 83 Wave cult just in case its light. If it’s 4.7 weather or lighter I will take that. Its set up with MFC 300 front fins and MFC 250 back fins. I choose the Wave Cult over the Fire Wave and the Hardcore wave because I think it is the best balance of speed and turning. The Firewave is faster, which can be good in the jumps, and the Hardcore would be better in the riding, but overall the Wave cult offers me the best compromise for here.
“For the sails, I don’t like to leave everything rigged all week on the beach. It gets so destroyed by the sun and by the salt. Now I prepare everything, with each sail, with its correct mast, and correct extension, set to the correct number. All sails are stickered up and ready to go. If the contest is on, it literally takes about 15 minutes to rig 3 or 4 sails, and like that I dont destroy everything. Especially during a week like we had here, I am very happy its not all rigged.
“I choose the RRD Four. It is our powerful 4 batten sail designed to work all around the world. I generally like to have some power in my hands and here in Pozo I think its really good to help lock the board down too. All sails are matched with C100 rdm masts and full carbon booms. I like to have all my booms exactly the same and put new harness lines on them just before the contest so I know they are all in good condition and all exactly the same length. Like that you can jump from 1 size sail to another in the middle of a heat and know that everything is set up the same. For me that is really important.”
