The PWA Lanzarote Freestyle and Super X Grand Slam Day 2

We are getting towards the final stages of the double elimination here in
Lanzarote. The top sailors that have advanced through today’s elimination
will soon take to the water to battle it out for a place in the semi
finals to go up against Diony Guadagnino (Neil Pryde) who placed second in
yesterdays elimination the winner of this will go up against freestyle
master and the winner of yesterdays competition, Kauli Seadi. Still
remaining in the double we have 2 French speakers, 3 Brazilian speakers
and 1 Spanish speaker. We will bring you the final results as soon as
today’s competition is over. Watch this space for all the news and inside

The heat is on here in Lanzarote. The early rounds of the double
elimination have been completed and the competition is in full swing.
Young Kiri Thode (Starboard/Gaastra) has been showing good form in the
early rounds. Kiri who is the youngest competitor at this event at 14
years old and weighing no more than 50kg is using a tiny 3m sail to enable
him to handle the gale force winds that are blowing cross off shore here
in Costa Teguise. Unfortunately for Kiri his quest for glory was stopped
by Kristoffer Living (AHD/North) who at 80kg has been using a 4.0m sail
and his far better built for handling the conditions. Be sure to keep an
eye on this youngster especially when the wind is lighter and his light
weight becomes an advantage.
Elsewhere in the double elimination Robby Swift (JP/Neil Pryde) has
recovered from his early exit yesterday and has just dispensed with Maui
local Nik Warmuth (Starboard/Gaastra). As the day progresses we will be
seeing some awesome battles as we reach the final stages of this first
double elimination.

The wind is hurtling through the competition area at over 30 knots and the
world’s elite freestylers are preparing for the start of the double
elimination on this the second day of the PWA Lanzarote Freestyle and
Super X Grand Slam.
After yesterdays all action single elimination, today will see some tough
heats in the double elimination. The double elimination allows all
sailors another chance to climb up the rankings. The first round of the
double elimination sees Antoine Albeau (AHD/Neil Pryde) go up against
local ripper Juan Daniel Rodriguez – experience against local knowledge,
it will be an interesting heat. Also in the first round we see a heat
full of young, natural talent with 3 friends going up against each other,
NB50 Ruben Pedrisie, NB61 Kiri Thode and NB1111 Jayson Jonge all from
Bonaire will be putting aside their companionship and battling for a place
in the next round of the double elimination.
