BSA Marazion

In the preceding days you could have been forgiven for thinking that driving to Cornwall to race over Easter was going to be futile. However, in spite of an average forecast Marazion turned it on and the BSA had two great days of racing. On Saturday a brisk south-easterly blew from late morning onwards. Throughout the afternoon the masterblaster class ran out and back racing from the beach. Further out a three buoy downwind course was set in the clean wind beyond St.Michaels Mount for amateur and pro fleets. Four full rounds of heats & finals were completed during the afternoon.

In the pro fleet there was a healthy amount of new blood with a number of guys having made the step up from amateur fleet. However, the top three from last season showed they are still the guys to beat and the super broad first reach was a closely fought drag race between James Dinsmore (Starboard/Severne), Simon Colfield (Fanatic/North) and Kev Greenslade (Taboo/GA). Behind these usual suspects Sam Latham (Fanatic/North) was sailing strongly but not quite a threat to the overall podium. Whilst some sailors were on sails as small as 7.0m, Dinsmore and Colfield hung onto their big 9.5/9.6m sails all afternoon and the strategy paid off. Dinsmore seemed to have a slight edge on boardspeed and took four bullets to lead overnight from Colfield and Greenslade.
