The latest British slalom event took place this weekend (16th-17th May) in Harwich with sunshine and light winds it was great to see few fresh faces at the event too. A couple of rounds of racing were completed with Kev Greenslade coming out on top in the pro slalom fleet with young Tom Wells right on his heels. The third round of the British Slalom Championships took place this weekend at an new venue, Harwich seafront. It was organised by Darren Herbert of quiver windsurfing and he did an excellent job with his local council and also organised great TV coverage with local BBC and ITV and even got sky sports down.
The venue was ideal for racing with a camping and rigging area and Darren even organised a band and entertainment all day Saturday. As far as the racing was concerned the wind started off light but filled in enough to get a complete round of slalom racing in on the Saturday unfortunately Sunday didn’t get windy enough for competition racing but a fun mass Master blaster was organised off to the beach which virtually everybody took part in.
The racing was close and favoured the lighter sailors but with only two finals for the pros and only one for the amateurs there were no room for errors and threw up some interesting results. In the pro fleet the winner went to form with Kevin Greenslade with his years of slalom experience paying dividends. But a surprise second place for young Tom Wells was well-deserved even beating Kevin in one race, third place went to Sam Latham, who used his old skills as an RSX sailor to good effect and consolidate a good result for the year so far. For the amateur fleet the conditions again threw up some surprises Jasper Geddes taking his first win followed in 2nd place by compleat rookie and BSA first timer Shaun Cook and Kacper Wozniak taking the third Podium spot.
The ever popular master blaster fleet was ( tortured) pushed hard again by the irrepressible Brian Tilbury. With with yet another surprise winner in 12-year-old Ellie Gibson competing for her first time and using her techno kit to great advantage in the light winds.
To sum up, a fantastic weekend of racing at a great new venue which the BSA Will be hoping is on the calendar again next year. We hope you like and share the video made of the weekend which really sums up what a great event it was.
