[series align=”right”]The first stop on the PWA world wave tour is just a month away and things are starting to get fired up, with many of the world’s top riders heading to Pozo to get warmed up and dialled into the crazy conditions.

The man on the mic is of course already there, Ben Proffitt has settled straight into Pozo life and already been on the video camera getting the first footage of the faces to watch on the wave tour this summer.

1. A very British sense of humour. Why are Proffitt’s diaries so popular? It has to be the good old British humour and Proffitt’s hundred words a minute of funny insight into life on tour. This isn’t just about who’s landing what (although that IS covered), but about who’s doing what stupid dance on the beach or having the biggest crashes, all with Proffitt’s unique commentary.

2. Koster. We cannot mention the PWA Pozo without mentioning the former world champion. Can Koster make a ‘comeback’ and re-stamp his authority on tour? Latest footage of the man in action would suggest there is a pretty good chance of this. We cannot wait to witness yet more jumping a riding gold from the king of the Canaries.

3. Fresh challengers. A whole host of riders are ‘back’ in town and ready to take on the Canaries. More events on the tour, in a variety of destinations, has no doubt inspired more contenders to give the full tour a go this year. The names to watch out for? Jaeger Stone, Graham Ezzy, Camille Juban and more are all looking to cause some major upsets.

4. The Brits. It could and should be a good year on tour for the British guys and girls. The usual faces will be there and are already training hard. As always, the like of Proffitt, Skye, Horrocks etc will be looking to place in the top 10, but with age (ahem) slightly more on his side it could be time for Adam Lewis to step up to the plate and really deliver in his favoured conditions. Sarah Bibby will also be representing the British ladies and will hopefully be joined by Lucy Robson in Tenerife, so there are lots of Brits for us to follow as the competition draws ever closer.

5. It’s not football. Or tennis. Now, we’re not saying we dislike the world cup or Wimbledon, BUT as the whole country (or so it seems) gets ridiculously excited about these mainstream sporting events, it’s nice to remind ourselves just how awesome windsurfing is and how we’re lucky to be part of a truly amazing sporting community.
