Over in the ladies fleet there were also a few early upsets in the single elimination held on the Saturday. Top riders Katie McAnena and Sarah Bibby both suffered early defeats, but came back strong through the double. It was Sarah Bibby though that had the real comeback as she went through five heats, finally being defeated in the semi final by Justyna Sniady.
An exceptionally high standard in the women’s fleet saw a lot of local dominance, with Jody Ward taking 5th, the young Sara Kellet taking 4th and Bibby finishing in third. It was Justyna Sniady that went on to face an on form Debbie Kennedy in the final. With varying conditions – massive close out waves, and some smaller more usable ones too, plus dying wind – it was Debbie Kennedy who took the win.
