Whilst the pro and ladies fleet delivered, this event was surely all about the amateurs. With 25 of the UK’s best amateur riders, many used to the big Cornish conditions it was always going to be a closely fought battle.
Heat upon heat were run in the stormy weather, with the tour regulars being joined by old and new faces, until it was down to the final four. Local Julian Leach was joined by Emile Kott, Mike Wand-Tetley and Tom Bennet-Lloyd to find the final winner. And it was to be Emile’s day as he put in an incredible performance to beat Mike into second, with Julian in third and Tom in fourth.
The standard of sailing shows there are many amateurs capable of also making an upset in the pro fleet and with such great numbers again we know the amateur riders are out there, let’s hope that next year even more make the effort to attend the whole tour.
